Thirtysomething- Reflections on a media junkies life thus far...

So, I've managed to make it to age thirty-one and not get killed in the middle of a troubled city. Hurrah... I guess. I've had times when I worked like maniac, and made piles of cash and landed awards, and others times when I reflected, but I suppose I've needed both to get where I am now. I realized life isn't about winning, and more people work to build a world through education, and compassion the better we will ALL be.

I'm an animator at AIPH in center city Philadelphia. It's a very good school for tackling the business side of animation which is what I'm going for. I'm already a solid painter, and Draftsmen, but the industry training gives me the enthusiasm I need to get my production rolling. In this world if you get distracted by the jagged edges, you will never reach the beautiful bits. That's ultimately what I live for. I get up in the morning to listen to music, and watch movies, and cartoons. I've done this since I climbed out the cradle, and as an adult I feel it is my reason to live. I get the impression music, film, and art may be in the backround of most peoples lives, but to me I live in a 3D movie, with quick cuts, slow bits, and a full orchestrated score. I'm going to make a big section of this blog about my love of film, and how it reflects, (or fails to reflect) life as we know it. After all media is lifeblood of culture as we know it today, and I doubt I'm alone in feeling like I must feed into it. I'm fully aware of the dangers of media, but those who hide from it, don't reap it's benefits. They can never consider themselves a part of the new way of life. At the same time those who chain themselves to things like Blogger, and Twitter may destroy their sense of reality. Oh well, I'll gladly take my stand in the modern age with all my fellow tech nerds, and media junkies.

The Big Push! Pt. 1

Hello. If you are reading this you probably have met me, or have seen my work. In any case welcome. I have been painting for almost 15 years now, as a way to express my deepest emotions. I feel like the real value of art is not merely creating merchandise, it's a way to reflect on the human experience, and share it with others.

I've always had a problem with the sharing part. I always feel misunderstood. I speak in clear complete sentences in a world that wants everything in 3 second soundbytes. The greatest art in the world does not communicate that way. I can sit and stare at a Picasso or a Henry Moore for hours. I can watch Bergman films hundreds of times. These works are timeless. Sure, the images or themes may reflect a world or technique that has been lost to time, but the emotion will always be a part of the human experience.

So this is my Big Push.
I have big ideas, and a burning desire to share them with the world. I am determined to not give up on myself and the world around me. This is my blog.
